Position Summary:

The primary responsibility of the CI Leader and Project Manager is to provide leadership in Operational Excellence and Continuous Improvement efforts by leveraging prior knowledge of Medical Device Manufacturing (or relevant Pharmaceutical Manufacturing) to support OpEX principles such as Lean Manufacturing. The secondary responsibility is to provide Project Management leadership at Sunstar by managing complex Production Engineering projects from idea to commercialization through leading cross-functional developmental implementation teams.

CI Leader Essential Job Functions: ~75%

  • Empower individuals and teams to use lean behaviors and mindsets to strive for excellence in execution.
  • Lead events to train Lean Practitioners and support deployment of Lean in the business, including, but not limited to systems such as daily management, standard work, 5S, A3 thinkings, and value stream management.
  • Educate the team members and practitioners on CI OpEx approaches and partner with leadership to engage all employees in the CI OpEx journey.
  • Assess areas already deployed to promote ongoing continuous improvement of lean deployment.
  • Contribute to the Lean program design, developing elements which are common across process areas.
  • Partner with site leadership to identify and prioritize major productivity improvement opportunities.
  • Serve as CI Coach partnering with Business Area Leads to facilitate the chosen methodology for the given project (e.g., Kaizen Event).
  • Provide support to ensure robust Organizational Change Management and Monitoring Plans are in place to sustain improvements.
  • Engage routinely with sponsors to provide status and escalate where appropriate as issues arise.
  • Ensure lean principles and tools are integrated into both project execution and solution design
  • Partner with site leadership to identify and prioritize major productivity improvement opportunities

Project Manager Essential Job Functions: ~25%

  • Work with project sponsors to define project scope, budget, and financial justification models
  • Draft agendas for and lead cross-functional team meetings focusing on defining and tracking key project milestones and deliverables
  • Draft and maintain complete project timelines
  • Ensure projects follow internal Stage-Gate process
  • Provide project status updates to Senior Management on a regular basis
  • Document meeting summaries, key decisions, and action items
  • Follow up regularly with team members for status updates
  • Identify project issues and risks early and work with stakeholders on solutions to minimize impacts to schedule and budget.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Engineering or Business Management related field
  • PMP certification preferred
  • CI OpEx Coach Certification preferred

Knowledge/Experience

  • 5 or more years of experience leading engineering projects within the medical device or pharmaceutical field
  • Demonstrated strong written and oral communication and interpersonal interaction skills to be able to work effectively in a team-based environment
  • Strong self-management and organizational skills
  • Ability to coach individuals at all levels, and lead project teams
  • Ability to influence without authority
  • Experience using electronic project scheduling methods such as MS Project
  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing, Six-Sigma, or other productivity improvement methods
  • Experience with project management and change management
