Code Enforcement Assistant (Community Development) summer

JOB SUMMARY:This position conducts field inspections to detect and correct general property maintenance ordinance violations. The position will monitor and document violation information and prepare written and verbal reports based on inspection data. Notices of violations and citations may also be issued. The position is typically for the summer months based on a 35‑hour work week.
JOB DUTIES:- Conduct daily drive‑by and walking inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial properties to identify building maintenance and other exterior code violations.
- Assist Code Enforcement Inspectors with notifying property owners of code violations and establishing a compliance period for non‑complying issues.
- Monitor and assist other village staff at the village’s farmer’s market held one day per week May through October.
- Issue notices of violation and citations as directed by the supervisor.
- Document inspection results and violations through data entry.
- Perform property research to gather background information for enforcement purposes.
- Provide general code information to the public.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Education equivalent to a high school diploma.
- Educational coursework in code enforcement, code inspection, building inspection, construction technology, construction management, criminal justice, law enforcement, or a related field preferred.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
- Proficiency with current computer technology, job‑specific software, and customer service systems.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Capable of climbing ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, stairwells, etc.
- Capable of stooping, crawling, bending the body downward and forward, turning the body at the waist or the head at the neck, moving on hands and knees or hands and feet, extending arm(s) and hand(s) in any direction, seizing, holding, grasping, turning with hands, picking, pinching, or otherwise working with fingers, maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, running, standing, or crouching.
- Ability to judge distances, see objects, distinguish objects by the eye, perceive the nature of sounds, feel objects such as size, shape, or texture using fingers and fingertips, distinguish varying degrees of temperatures.
- Capable of withstanding heights, walking on roofs, maneuvering around and/or through obstacles, construction materials, manufactured materials, and/or equipment.
- Capable of operating instruments, tools, and equipment that are job‑related and/or as directed.
- Capable of conducting thorough plan/drawing reviews, interpreting customer requests, proofreading, working with figures, and effectively performing code enforcement and compliance.
- Have the necessity to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to cope with numerous interruptions.
- Ability to drive a personal vehicle to and from inspection sites.
$30.86 per hour.
BENEFITS:Seasonal employees are not eligible for benefits.
