Position Summary

The Product Application Specialist supports laser and resistance welding solutions by providing hands-on application engineering, product support, and customer training. This role serves as a key technical presence at a Midwest-based solution center and works closely with customers, sales teams, and internal partners. Extensive customer interaction is required, along with regular domestic travel.

Key Responsibilities Application Engineering
  • Assess customer applications using equipment available at the solution center and through on-site customer visits
  • Partner with customers, sales managers, and representatives to gather technical requirements and application details
  • Document findings and provide clear recommendations for appropriate equipment and process solutions
  • Develop and deliver equipment demonstrations and proof-of-concept testing
  • Travel to customer sites to conduct training, process development, and troubleshooting
  • Present process fundamentals and best practices related to welding technologies
  • Provide technical support via phone and email to customers and internal teams
Product & Technical Support
  • Install, align, and service laser and resistance welding systems, including workstations with PLCs and motion control components
  • Train customers on proper equipment operation, maintenance, and application use
  • Support troubleshooting efforts and respond to technical inquiries related to equipment performance and applications
  • Collaborate with visiting customers on in-house application development initiatives
  • Support customer visits, demonstrations, and open house events at the solution center
  • Deliver live equipment demonstrations during tours and technical events
  • Build working knowledge of all supported equipment and processes to provide well-rounded customer support
  • Accompany sales teams on customer visits to provide technical expertise during evaluations and presentations
Education & Experience
  • Strong technical aptitude in electrical or mechanical systems with demonstrated problem-solving capability
  • Associate’s degree or higher in materials science, physics, electronics, or a related technical field preferred; equivalent hands‑on experience will also be considered
  • Background in material processing (welding, cutting, or marking) is a plus
  • Experience troubleshooting electrical circuits or mechanical systems preferred
  • Customer-facing experience in a technical or service-oriented environment is beneficial
  • Comfortable communicating with customers by phone and in person
  • Strong listening skills with attention to detail and documentation
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally
Location
  • Primary work location:
    Schaumburg, Illinois
  • Initial training conducted in Southern California and Southeast Michigan
Travel
  • Up to 40% travel expected
  • Majority of travel is domestic, typically short-duration trips
  • Regular travel to Southern California required
Required Skills & Abilities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with customers and internal teams
  • Practical electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to logically analyze technical problems based on customer descriptions
  • Proficiency with standard PC tools, including Microsoft Office
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to coordinate schedules and commitments across teams
