Position OverviewThis position is accountable for performing inspections, sampling, testing, documentation and reporting to ensure that all aggregate produced by a source meet Illinois Department of Transportation requirements and maintain high quality standards.
Essential Functions- Inspects aggregate material and sources to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Maintains complete and accurate material testing records.
- Prepares reports for relevant reporting systems.
- Acquires knowledge of inspection and testing procedures, specifications, and checklists.
- Verifies compliance with the Aggregate Gradation Control System (AGCS) and the Manual for Aggregate Inspection.
- Stays current on recycled concrete and slag aggregate production and sampling.
- Resolves material deficiencies and documents material exceptions.
- Oversight of manufacturing procedures to minimize marginal or unacceptable material.
- Builds relationships with material producers to ensure proper quality delivery.
- Calibrates and maintains laboratory testing equipment.
- Obtains required certifications and performs inspections on new products.
- Observes safety rules and promotes fair treatment of all employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre‑engineering, or related technical/science curriculum plus thirty months of engineering experience, or six years of engineering experience.
- Knowledge of the AGCS program, Standard Specifications, and Special Provisions.
- Completion of the IDOT Quality Management Training Program for PCC Level I and HMA Level I.
- Strong communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Successful background check.
- Completion of IDOT Management Training Program for Aggregates.
- Extensive travel, occasional night work, and overtime.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Pre‑employment physical, drug and alcohol screening.
- Revolving door restrictions apply as specified in 5 ILCS 430/5‑45.
