This position is accountable for performing inspections, sampling, testing, documentation and reporting to ensure that all aggregate produced by a source meet Illinois Department of Transportation requirements and maintain high quality standards.

• Inspects aggregate material and sources to ensure compliance with specifications.
• Maintains complete and accurate material testing records.
• Prepares reports for relevant reporting systems.
• Acquires knowledge of inspection and testing procedures, specifications, and checklists.
• Verifies compliance with the Aggregate Gradation Control System (AGCS) and the Manual for Aggregate Inspection.
• Stays current on recycled concrete and slag aggregate production and sampling.
• Resolves material deficiencies and documents material exceptions.
• Oversight of manufacturing procedures to minimize marginal or unacceptable material.
• Builds relationships with material producers to ensure proper quality delivery.
• Calibrates and maintains laboratory testing equipment.
• Obtains required certifications and performs inspections on new products.
• Observes safety rules and promotes fair treatment of all employees.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre‑engineering, or related technical/science curriculum plus thirty months of engineering experience, or six years of engineering experience.

• Knowledge of the AGCS program, Standard Specifications, and Special Provisions.
• Completion of the IDOT Quality Management Training Program for PCC Level I and HMA Level I.
• Strong communication skills.

• Valid driver’s license.
• Successful background check.
• Completion of IDOT Management Training Program for Aggregates.
• Extensive travel, occasional night work, and overtime.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Pre‑employment physical, drug and alcohol screening.
• Revolving door restrictions apply as specified in 5 ILCS 430/5‑45.
