An exciting opportunity is available to join Gewalt Hamilton Associates (GHA), an employee-owned, multi-faceted civil engineering and land surveying company that has built a reputation of civil engineering with a personal approach. We are seeking a Project Manager I to join our growing Water Resources team in Vernon Hills or Schaumburg, Illinois.

How you will make an impact:
The Project Manager will report to the Division Director and take on a leadership role to manage all responsibilities of assigned projects with our clients. They will lead the design of stormwater management systems, coordinate and assist other company divisions, and mentor and manage junior engineering staff assigned to projects. This role is an exempt, salary, position. We offer a hybrid work environment.

The additional knowledge, skills, and abilities that are required for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assist with contractual responsibilities and provide leadership on assigned projects for clients.
- Lead the design of stormwater management systems, drainage studies, modeling, watershed planning, plan preparation, specifications, and related tasks, including coordination with other company divisions such as Civil Design, Transportation, Construction, and Survey.
- Support engineering design, plan preparation, exhibits, specifications, and other tasks for site development, roadway improvements, and flood control projects.
- Prepare stormwater-related permit applications and obtain approvals from regulatory agencies.
- Prepare detailed drainage studies and hydraulic reports.
- Attend and manage meetings with clients, municipalities, regulatory agencies, sub-consultants, internal team members, and contractors.
- Mentor and manage junior engineering staff assigned to projects.
- Develop proposals that include scope of work, schedules, and budget estimates.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor's Degree in civil engineering or related field.
- Formal training in project management preferred.
Experience and Licensure:
- Six (6) years of Civil Engineering experience concentrating on Water Resources, including four (4) years as a major contributor on contract deliverable development or project leader.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) or additional professional licensure and certifications preferred.
- Experience participating in industry professional societies preferred.
- Valid Illinois Driver's License and registered insured personal vehicle.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Perform at a high level in junior staff management.
- Ability to independently identify, evaluate, select, and apply engineering criteria and standards to manage the delivery of project scope including the development of technical documents across several engineering disciplines.
- Possess a thorough understanding of the requirements and processes of medium complexity projects sufficient for developing work plans and reviewing work products.
- Use project management tools to monitor project schedule, budget and manpower requirements and communicate those expectations to project team. This includes completing draft project invoices for review and approval.
- Ability to shift team priorities when needed during project development.
- Perform site visits to observe and/or troubleshoot complex issues when required.
- Lead project-related communication and meetings with clients and other stakeholders.
- Ability to lead the development of project proposals or lead specific elements of the proposal.
- Proficiency with software products:
- Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Teams, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
- PDF editing software (Adobe, Bluebeam, etc.)
