The Schaumburg Township District Library has an onsite Adult Services Library Assistant position open. The vital role of the Adult Services Library Assistant is providing customer service at the Reference desk, assessing and fulfilling patrons’ needs for information and materials, assisting in delivering programs, and maintaining departmental procedures and policies. Hours are as follows and requires flexibility.
- Monday 5:00pm-9:00pm
- Thursday 5:00pm-9:00pm
- Friday 3:00pm-7:00pm
- 1st Saturday of each month 8:45am-5:00pm
- 1st and 4th Sunday of each month and rotating 5th Sunday rotation 11:45am-5:00pm
The schedule is based on the needs of the library and could change if and when needed. Starting pay is $17.31/hr - $20.76/hr, based on skills and qualifications.

Position SummaryThe Adult Services Library Assistant is responsible for providing customer service at both Adult Services public desks, assessing and fulfilling patrons’ needs for information and materials, assisting in delivering programs, and maintaining departmental procedures and policies. This position requires good organizational and communication skills and the flexibility and training to move from task to task in a team environment. Specific responsibilities will be assigned by the supervisor on the basis of experience, skills, and specific needs of the department and number of hours worked.

- Ability to learn various job functions, perform them correctly, and understand the necessity in overall library operations.
- Ability to independently function efficiently in a changing and varied environment with frequent interruptions.

- Ability to follow all library policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates commitment to incorporating principles of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion into everyday work.
- Provides reference services to patrons at both Adult Services public desks.
- Assists in delivering classes and programs to meet community needs.
- Assists in providing technology and equipment assistance to patrons.
- Handles financial transactions and maintains cash drawer.
- Sets up equipment for Library programs and public meetings.
- Maintains printers and replaces toners upon request for Central Library.
- Keeps apprised of Library programs, policies and procedures and building layout to assist patrons most effectively.
- Participates in relevant training, continuing education and/or professional development.
- Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent knowledge and skill in areas related to the responsibilities of the position.
- Customer service experience is required.
- Knowledge of eBooks and reference resources.
