We're recruiting an Accountant for a well-established organisation in Scarborough
. This is a varied, hands‑on finance role supporting the day‑to‑day running of the finance function, with real scope to broaden into wider operational support over time.
If you're qualified or qualified by experience and enjoy getting stuck into everything from month‑end to VAT as well as more operational and commercial aspects of a company, this could be a brilliant next step.
What the Accountant job involvesThis role supports the senior finance lead with the smooth running of finance processes, controls and reporting. Overseeing day‑to‑day finance activity across purchase ledger, sales ledger and debt collection.
- Supporting monthly reconciliations, including month‑end and year‑end processes (accruals/prepayments, reporting)
- Assisting with management accounts and budget performance reporting
- Maintaining the fixed asset register and supporting audit preparation / audit liaison
- Supporting cashflow monitoring and financial forecasting/budgeting activity
- Overseeing supplier payments and strengthening finance processes for best value and compliance
- Supporting the invoicing process (including external invoice production where applicable)
- Posting payroll journals and monthly payroll reconciliation, with oversight of payroll processes (including pensions, PAYE, P11
Ds) - Supporting VAT preparation and submission, including partial exemption calculations and quarterly reconciliations
- Contributing to risk management, policy reviews, statutory records and compliance
- You'll also collaborate with operational teams when needed (HR/admin support and project work can form part of the wider remit).
To succeed here, you'll ideally bring:
- Management Accounts and budget preparation experience
- Experience preparing records for audit and producing accurate financial information
- Excellent systems confidence (finance packages such as Sage/Xero/Quickbooks or similar, plus Excel and Microsoft Office; Google Workspace also beneficial)
- Practical knowledge across ledgers, reconciliations, month‑end, cashflow, and process improvement
- Experience or understanding of payroll and VAT
- A proactive, solutions‑focused mindset, high attention to detail, and confident communication skills
