Position SummaryUnder direct supervision, assists in the diagnosis, service, and installation of electrical work in a residential customer’s home. Assists with the installations, maintenance, and repairs of electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures. Ensures that work is performed in accordance with relevant codes. Assists with communicating with residential customers to answer questions, resolve problems, and ensure complete customer satisfaction. Works under the directions of the Licensed Electrician.
Key Responsibilities- Assists the Journeyman to analyze, diagnose, and resolve customer problems in a courteous, professional, timely, and accurate manner.
- Assists to diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, or components using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
- Inspects electrical systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair, ensuring compliance with codes.
- Tests electrical systems or continuity of circuits using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, or oscilloscopes to ensure safety and compatibility.
- Plans layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures based on job specifications and local codes.
- Repairs or replaces wiring, equipment, or fixtures using hand tools or power tools; connects wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
- Places conduit, pipes, or tubing inside partitions, walls, and concealed areas; pulls insulated wires or cables through conduit to complete circuits.
- Installs ground leads and connects power cables to equipment such as motors.
- Constructs and fabricates parts using hand tools and specifications.
- Uses a variety of tools or equipment, such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment.
- Works from ladders, scaffolds, or roofs to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures.
- Ensures company property, vehicles, and tools are properly maintained and accounted for.
- Follows standard procedures and processes to keep the company vehicle stocked, returns defective warranty parts to branch, and replenishes vehicle stock as needed.
- Represents the company professionally, honestly, and ethically in all business matters and activities.
- Performs similar or other duties as needed or assigned.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in electrical repair, maintenance, and installation, plus on-the-job training.
- Knowledge of machines and tools used in construction or repair of houses, buildings, and other structures.
- Working proficiency in basic mathematics and metric and standard measurements.
- Proficient mechanical aptitude and ability to operate all necessary tools and equipment.
- Effective communication skills; resolve customer issues, complaints, or concerns.
- Effective and efficient time-management and organizational skills.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
- Available to work flexible hours and on-call shifts as needed.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, attic stairs, and maneuver in attics, basements, crawl spaces.
- Natural or corrected vision for close, distance, peripheral vision; accurately distinguish colors.
- Hand/eye coordination.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
