The Oncology Genetic Counselor role is responsible for assessing individual and family risk for hereditary cancer syndromes, providing guidance on genetic testing options, and supporting informed decision making for patients and families navigating cancer risk. This role delivers education, emotional support, and evidence‑based recommendations to help individuals understand and manage their hereditary cancer risks. The genetic counselor works collaboratively with oncologists, surgeons, advanced practice providers, nurses, and other members of the multidisciplinary cancer care team to integrate genetic information into personalized cancer prevention, surveillance, and treatment planning.
