Job DescriptionPRIMARY FUNCTION: This position is responsible for performing skilled work in the construction and maintenance of the district’s facilities and equipment. The position will also organize, assign and review work of other maintenance staff.
REPORTS TO: Senior Director of Maintenance Trades

Requirements- Education Level:
- High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution or vocational license in carpentry trade.
- 10 years of carpenter or equivalent journeyman level carpentry experience.

- Required:
- Valid driver’s license for operation of district vehicles.

- Knowledge of installation procedures and the ability to design, repair, and modify structures in collaboration with contractors.
- Skill in installing foundations, walls, floors, ceilings, and roofs.
- Ability to install window frames, doors, hardware, and both interior and exterior trim.
- Proficiency in erecting scaffolding and ladders for work at elevated heights.
- Competence in interpreting blueprints, sketches, and building plans.
- Skill in preparing project layouts and determining necessary dimensions and materials.
- Ability to measure accurately and effectively use hand tools, machines, and power saws.
- Understanding of and adherence to safety rules and regulations, with the ability to maintain a clean work environment.
- Capability to construct and repair cabinets, doors, frameworks, and floors.
- Skill in removing damaged or defective structural components.
- Proficiency in inspecting ceilings, wooden flooring, wall coverings, siding, glass, and woodwork to identify defects or issues.
- Ability to safely transport required materials around the jobsite.
- Knowledge of the Carpentry Code and safe operation of power tools and trade hand tools.
- Ability to operate and utilize personal computers and related peripherals.
- Ensure a safe workplace by following company, OSHA, and Board of Education policies; promptly report violations.
- Operate ladders, scaffolds, platforms, and lifts for electrical work in school facilities.
- Respond quickly to emergencies, assess safety, and guide affected individuals to ensure their well‑being.
- Keep equipment in good condition for safe use; manage inventory and documentation.
- Assist with reviewing electrical plans for construction and remodeling projects.
- Use the School Dude system to track and verify work order completion.
- Collaborate with vendors, engineers, and contractors on various projects.
- Support department goals; help implement new initiatives.
- Maintain and repair carpentry tools; install ceiling grid systems and inspect facilities for defects.
- Oversee contractor inspections and prioritize trade improvements for district properties.
- Manage multiple priorities, tasks, and stressful situations; train and direct workers effectively.
- Perform necessary math computations and operate personal computers.
- Be available for on‑call duties beyond regular hours.
- Communicate and cooperate with diverse people; provide excellent customer service in all facilities.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate repairs or replacement parts.
- Read and apply blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical instructions.
- Prioritize safety practices; report unsafe conditions.
- Perform other assigned duties.
