Maintenance Worker - Street Maintenance Division

This position provides complex maintenance and repair of streets, sidewalks, curbs, lanes, and shoulders.

• Breaks up concrete and asphalt, digs trenches and holes using various hand power tools.
• Prepares the subgrade for pouring concrete, laying asphalt, laying brick, etc.
• Mix mortar and concrete by using a portable concrete mixer or wheelbarrow.
• Places concrete into forms or post holes by transporting concrete to the pour location via wheelbarrow or bucket.
• Cuts trees, weeds, and brush using a chainsaw, pole saw, hand saw, shears, etc.
• Loads and unloads tools and materials from a storage location to a vehicle and/or from a vehicle to the worksite and vice versa.
• Lowers or raises tools and materials into or out of holes, excavations, etc.
• Lifts and positions material either manually or with the help of lifting aids.
• Lays concrete block/brick, constructs or repairs brick sidewalks and other miscellaneous structures.
• Shovels sand, soil, gravel, asphalt, concrete, and other miscellaneous materials; fills and places sandbags, as needed.
• Sweeps and cleans sidewalks and roadways.
• Assists in setting up traffic control devices.
• Removes rocks, branches, trash, and other debris from the rights-of-way.
• Drives pickups, trucks & non-commercial dump trucks.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

High school diploma or GED, with six months of experience in general grounds maintenance and/or maintenance/construction of streets, sidewalks, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
