Job Description Job OverviewThe Drawing 2 Operator is a medium skill role and will be required to coordinate, set up, and operate the drawing machine to draw various sizes of copper wire from feeder stock.
General Requirements- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must read, write, and speak English; bilingual in Spanish is a plus
- Must be able to stand and lift heavy loads for long periods of time
- Must be able to lift up to 45 lbs
- Responsible for set-up and operation of multiwire drawing machine
- Operate to run correct wire sizes and correct lengths on proper take-up package as specified on production order
- Load and unload sets of bobbins/reels whether they are matched lengths or matched sets
- Make all pay-off bobbin/reel changes and take-up reel changes
- Make high quality hot-welds and cold-welds in feeder stock to operate machine continuously
- Maintain a layer wound package
- Maintain correct inventory of WIP tags daily
- Responsible for proper die set-ups
- Measure wire after the various dies to ensure desired reduction is achieved
- String wires in proper position to ensure properly constructed take-up package
- Monitor, evaluate and adjust various machine controls to produce quality wire at specified production speeds
- Check concentration of drawing solution and diagnose problems with feeder stock
- Coordinate material handling with lift driver to ensure a continuous production process
- Measure elongation of each wire on each take-up package to ensure proper annealing
- Use non-deformed take-up and pay-off packages
- String up dies for wire-size changeovers and breakouts
- Examine wire to detect potential causes of breakouts
- Make gear changes, traverse adjustments and annealer settings
- Weigh each take-up package prior to recording production
- Work under supervision and maintain ongoing communication with the supervisor and peers
- Put scrap into designated scrap bins
- Will be required to cross-train one equipment within identified workgroup at the facility
- May be required to fill the position in the event of absence or vacancy after training in more complex jobs
- Will rotate on a set frequency within the workgroup to maintain skill proficiency
- Follow the company's ISO Quality System documentation to guide daily quality activities
- Perform quality checks as outlined in process procedures for the machine, including minor maintenance when necessary
- Do not release products until all quality checks have been passed
- Immediately report quality issues to the supervisor or quality manager
- Working safely is a condition of employment
- Observe Southwire safety rules and maintain good housekeeping
- Follow all safety procedures and rules
- Physical activity includes balance, climbing, fingering, grasping, hearing, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motions, standing, stooping, walking and sitting
- Must be able to work in hot and cold environments normally found in a prefabricated building without climate-control
