The position is for 1st shift – weekday days and can be performed at any hangar in the Savannah Service Center. Avionics Structure Mechanic – Structural Mech II. Performance of structural assembly operations following established procedures with minor guidance.
Education and Experience Requirements- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 2 years related structural assembly experience.
- Experience working with Solumina and Smarteam preferred.
In a team‑oriented work environment, under minimal supervision, the Structural Mech II performs a variety of structural assembly operations in a production department following established operating procedures. All work performed is in accordance with company design specifications, quality standards, and the completed work meets customer expectations.
Job Description- Safely perform assembly and fitting of detail parts and structures, including drilling and riveting operations; ensure parts/assembly meet all requirements.
- Rivet structural assemblies and parts using all needed tools (portable riveting guns, pneumatic guns, drills, countersinks, rivet shavers, files, reamers, rivets). Remove fasteners without damaging structures.
- Read work orders, blueprints, lofts, sketches, and operation sheets to determine the sequence of operations, type, size, and hole pattern for rivets, cut and form plastics, and follow SOPs for adhesives, sealants, and solvents.
- Check all work to ensure a defect‑free assembly before final inspection.
- Maintain and use all logs and records (MIR sheets, DMTs, Crabs, PCOs).
- Align and assemble parts to be riveted using jigs, fixtures, pins, clamps, and fasteners. Shape and form complex angles and configurations according to blueprint specifications or written/verbal information.
- Make repairs per DMT, MRR, PCO, performing necessary rework to ensure installations meet conformity.
- Maintain a neat and orderly work area, support the company 5S Program, and comply with all safety regulations. Use personal protective equipment as required.
- Work independently with minimal supervision on duties and tasks.
- Participate in continuous improvement activities (e.g., YIAW, Kaizen events).
- Properly use and maintain company‑provided tools and equipment; return items to the tool room after use.
- Ensure SOPs are followed when operating ground support equipment.
- Properly collect and dispose of waste fuel, oil, hydraulic fluids, de‑icing fluids, and solvent rags.
- Ensure accurate daily job charging to the aircraft.
- Exchange job‑related information and coordinate work activities between shifts through turn‑over report meetings and direct contact with leadership.
- Assist in maintaining shop equipment and associated JSAs.
- Support Lean Activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, scale drawings, and perform basic shop math.
- Basic computer skills and shop math skills.
- Read and comprehend basic documents and instructions.
- Professional attitude, attention to detail, ability to work with people, and meet demanding schedules.
- Demonstrate good housekeeping and safety practices.
- Ability to work with composite resins and materials.
- Must be able to work any shift.
- Must be able to climb ladders/stands/stairs and work in small or restricted areas; lift up to 50 lbs.
- Read, write, speak, and understand English.
