Job Summary
The Network Infrastructure Engineer role is to ensure the stability and integrity of in-house data, video, voice, and wireless network services. This is achieved by planning, designing, and developing local area networks and wide area networks across the organization. In addition, the position will participate in the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links.
The individual will also analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion and provide end‑user training where required.
- Establish a networking environment by installing, configuring, testing, and documenting equipment and network systems according to design specifications.
- Lead day‑to‑day networking tasks to ensure network reliability, availability, and serviceability with minimal interruption.
- Install and maintain firewalls, and establish and maintain company‑wide internet access policies.
- Provide technical support, respond to work orders and tickets from users, analyze and solve reported network problems.
- Perform analysis and collect data to establish potential improvements within communication networks.
- Configure networks to ensure smooth and reliable operation for business objectives and processes.
- Monitor network performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed.
- Oversee installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end‑user workstation hardware, software, and peripheral devices.
- Ensure network connectivity of all servers, workstations, telephony equipment, fax machines, and other network appliances.
- Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and technical documentation.
- Participate in managing all network security solutions.
- Design and deploy company LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including servers, routers, switches, UPSs, and other hardware.
- Design, implement, and support firewalls, site‑to‑site VPNs, and remote‑access VPNs.
- Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of industry developments.
- Oversee new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.
- Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsource rs, and contractors to secure network products and services.
- Collaborate with executive management and department leaders to assess near‑ and long‑term network capacity needs.
- Create and maintain documentation related to network configuration, mapping, processes, and service record.
- Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and training plans for network administration, usage, and disaster recovery.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline with a minimum of three years of applicable experience administering complex LAN/WAN environments OR Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field of study with a minimum of seven years of relevant work experience.
Preferred Qualifications- Industry‑related experience as a Senior Network Engineer or Network Administrator.
- Professional certification (e.g., CCNP, CCDP).
- Solid background in network administration and architecture.
- In‑depth understanding of communication protocols (mainly TCP/IP) and routing protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF).
- Familiarity with access control models and network security.
- Experience with network diagnostic, monitoring, and analysis tools (e.g., Solar Winds network tools).
- Solid understanding of network operating systems (Cisco IOS).
- Sharp troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Organizational and mentoring skills.
- Three to five years’ experience designing, implementing, managing, and supporting enterprise‑level IP networks that include support of a heterogeneous distributed desktop computing environment.
- Proven experience and success with LAN, WAN, and WLAN design and implementation.
- Proven experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices.
