Summary
The Clinic Supervisor (CS) is a Supervisory Certified Medical Assistant responsible for oversight of operations and administration for a Medical Disability Examination (MDE) Clinic. The CS cultivates an environment that achieves the organization’s mission through quality care, efficiency, and a focus on core values. The CS directs, coordinates, implements, executes, and completes contractual requirements to deliver a quality experience for the Veteran, providers, and communities served.
The CS reports to the Area Manager (AM) or the Clinic Manager (CM) as directed.
Operational Responsibilities:
- Manages clinical operations of an MDE clinic
- Supervises the operations and delivery of medical disability services
- Implements, monitors, and maintains clinical practice and quality management standards
- Establishes and maintains effective, collaborative relationships with examiners and other stakeholders
- Collaborates with multi-disciplinary stakeholders to resolve issues and meet access goals
- Supervises and maintains Veteran care and quality service standards to meet the expectations of Loyal Healthcare and the VA
- Provides operational accountability for, and coordination of, diagnostic services
- Ensures examiners deliver high‑quality services to Veterans that comply with VA healthcare standards and local, state, and federal requirements
- Ensures safety in the clinic by inspecting emergency kits and assisting with medical emergencies
- Recommends and evaluates processes to improve systems and Veteran care results across the continuum of care
- Assists AMs in implementing policies and procedures
- Supervises and monitors the implementation of clinic policies and procedures which support departmental and organizational goals
- Assists in resolution of administrative and operational issues, including maintenance of clinic property, computer systems, and installed software applications
- Resolves problems in administrative and clinical areas as needed
- Performs the duties of a Medical Assistant as needed
- Ensures all clinic logs are accurate and timely
- Automated external defibrillator (AED)
- Temperature logs of the laboratory fridges
- Expired medication
- Fire extinguisher
- Conducts inventory counts on a consistent basis
- Orders and stocks medication, addresses shortages if necessary
- Assists with rescheduling appointments as needed if is unable to assist
Staffing Responsibilities:
- Provides first-line supervision and time approval for clinic staff
- Provides staff with training and education on medical emergencies and equipment
- Ensures staff is trained and operates in compliance with all government and other regulatory agencies
- Supervises clinical staff, planning and adjusting staffing as needed daily to maintain safe Veteran care and efficient operations
- Supervises the use and maintenance of equipment, supplies, and medications
- Evaluates employee performance and recommends merit increases, promotions, and disciplinary actions
- Ensures staff provide the highest quality of care, complying with the Joint Commission, local, state, and federal requirements
Additional Responsibilities:
- Maintains strict confidentiality
- Ensures compliance with regulations and standards
- Acts as a Veteran advocate, resolving Veteran care issues
- Serves as a liaison between site and external agencies
- Participates in management or leadership meetings as requested or directed
- Assists leadership in the development of clinic strategic plans and objectives based on the identified needs of Veterans
- Assists in managing and resolving Human Resource (HR), labor relations, employee and department safety, and risk management issues
- Performs other duties as needed
- Current Basic Life Support for Providers, by American Heart Association (AHA)
- Two or more (2+) years of supervisory or management experience in a health care setting
- Medical Assistant with current state certification
- Associate’s degree or 30+ undergraduate college credits
