The role of the Exercise Physiologist includes:

Developing exercise prescriptions to improve cardiovascular health, muscular strength, endurance, and flexibility without exceeding safe exercise limits.

Providing education to clients about health-related issues, benefits, and myths of exercise.

Assisting with Cardiopulmonary Stress Testing under physician supervision.

Coordinating and supervising research, and establishing long-term client goals and assessments.

Promoting client confidence in achieving personal fitness and wellness goals.

Education

Bachelor of Science - Required

Experience

Minimum 1 year clinical experience - Required

Six months experience in exercise-related field (internships accepted) - Required

License & Certification

American College of Sports Medicine - Preferred

Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - Required

Core Job Functions

Ensure equipment is cleaned, calibrated, and locker rooms maintained for safety.
Document patient assessments, responses to exercise, and progress; perform reassessments as needed.
Design educational programs with clear goals, objectives, curricula, and evaluation methods, considering principles of adult learning and standards by ACSM and AACVPR.
Develop, adjust, and document exercise prescriptions based on fitness tests and physician recommendations, tailoring plans to individual needs.
Design, update, and evaluate educational curricula, incorporating accreditation standards; participate in committees as a content expert.
Collaborate with clients to set specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely goals based on assessment data.
