The Laboratory Technical Supervisor assists the Manager and Administrative Director with day-to-day operations of the hematology section/department, including personnel management, staffing, quality control, quality assurance and proficiency testing, developing and evaluating laboratory methodologies, and overseeing equipment, supplies and inventories. Performs clinical testing as needed and prepares the department for accrediting agency inspections.
Responsibilities- Support Managers and Administrative Director in personnel activities (interviews, work allocation, orientation and training, staff development, performance evaluations, and corrective actions) and maintain accountability for their team’s output and conduct.
- Understand laboratory methods and pathological processes; independently perform specimen processing and testing, including moderate and high complexity testing as appropriate; complete competency checklists; calibrate and perform QC on instrumentation where applicable.
- Ensure compliance with accrediting agencies; apply CQI principles; develop, implement, and evaluate quality assurance programs; document corrective actions.
- Develop and evaluate laboratory methodologies, procedures and techniques in the clinical specialty.
- Serve as a resource on testing methods, laboratory operations, safety, and training; act as a liaison in the absence of other management personnel.
- Oversee ordering, care, maintenance and utilization of department equipment, supplies, and inventories.
- Manage special projects, including planning, resource coordination, timelines, and progress reporting to the Manager.
- Develop and evaluate orientation and competency programs; validate coworker competency.
- Participate in Leadership Skills development and apply new knowledge to the job.
- Support the Memorial Health University Health System mission and demonstrate excellent customer service.
- Adhere to safety policies and report unsafe conditions; follow safety equipment usage and procedures.
- Adhere to the MHUHS Code of Conduct and report activity that may violate laws, rules, or the Code of Conduct.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Histotechnician, Histotechnologist, or Medical Lab Scientist.
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Supervisor experience is preferred.
- 5+ years of experience as MLS/MT/CLS required.
