This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position:
Incumbent is responsible for selecting methods and procedures to be followed in conducting geological, hydrogeological and hazardous toxic and radioactive waste (HTRW) studies and projects and in arriving at adequate solutions to problems encountered.

Major Duties- Select methods and procedures to be followed in conducting geological, hydrogeological and hazardous toxic and radioactive waste (HTRW) studies and projects in arriving at adequate solutions to problems encountered.
- Investigates prospective undeveloped quarry sites, existing commercial quarries and sand pits in vicinity of large civil projects.
- Plans, scopes and oversees investigations for assigned projects. Selects the most appropriate geological techniques for materials to be encountered.
- Prepare and present technical data on feasibility of proposed foundations and materials design, groundwater conditions, and stability of structures.
GS-11 Specialized
Experience:
One year of specialized experience which includes 1.) Utilizing instruments and equipment to select sampling locations for testing. 2.) conducting studies and investigations for subsurface exploration programs relative to geological and hydrogeological problems which may include foundations, landslides, channel design, and hazardous toxic and radioactive waste (HTRW) etc in projects
3) preparing appropriate portions of plans, specifications, design memoranda and various other reports for the execution of projects.
4) performing calculations and applying correction factors; plotting of preliminary prediction values for portions of larger studies; identifying fossils and rock samples, and determining extent of formations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR
Education:
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: geology. OR Education Combination of
Education and Experience:
A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18.
