Structural Design Engineer II in GAC Savannah

The Airframe Structural Design Engineering team develops and sustains the structural definition of all large cabin Gulfstream aircraft, supporting both new product development and ongoing improvements to the existing fleet. Our core mission is to deliver safe, efficient, high‑quality designs that are manufacturing‑ready, on schedule, and within budget while supporting manufacturing, service teams, and customers. Structural design engineers define the form, fit, and function of airframe parts and assemblies, integrate systems, and select appropriate materials, processes, and finishes using CAD and PLM tools.

Preferred candidates will also have:
  • Proficiency in CATIA v5 workbenches used for part design
  • Proficiency in Smar Team PLM database
  • Prior work experience with Gulfstream aircraft design

The candidate will be ultimately responsible for producing high quality designs, ready for manufacturing, on time, at the right cost by:

  • Employing all Structural Design core competencies to develop structural definition of the aircraft.
  • Engaging various engineering, manufacturing, program, and customer support teams to complete designs.
  • Participating in design reviews.
  • Participating in aircraft build support.
  • Interacting with suppliers and preparing technical coordination memos.
  • Preparing engineering reports.
  • Documenting, tracking, and managing design projects of various magnitude using online knowledge bases and tracking tools.
Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related curriculum required or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job. 18 months related Engineering experience. Experience credit will be considered for related advanced degrees limited to 2 years for Master's and 4 years for PhD in field applicable to the job position.

Job Description Principal Duties and Responsibilities Essential Functions
  • Solves typical engineering problems within assigned discipline.
  • Provides technical assistance to engineering staff and contributes to completion of project milestones.
  • Responsible for a complex engineering assignment, or a full project of lesser complexity.
  • Follows established schedules while developing plans for engineering assignments.
  • Obtains appropriate level of supervisor approvals for work accuracy and adequacy.
  • Proficiently applies company/organization policies and procedures.
  • Additional Functions
  • Actively works to improve daily processes, and ensures all work meets customer requirements.
  • Maintains a current and up‑to‑date knowledge of developments and application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in assigned field of expertise.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Applies knowledge to provide solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity, using a combination of judgment with defined practices and procedures.
  • Failure to achieve results, or erroneous decisions or recommendations, may cause delays in program schedules and/or allocation of additional resources.
  • Ability to convey technical concepts in both written and verbal formats.
  • Contacts are primarily within the organization, with occasional customer contacts on routine issues.
  • Works under general supervision for routine tasks of minor complexity.
  • With supervision/mentorship, can coordinate the activities for lower level engineering staff.
  • This job requires one to be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
