Job Summary

The Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Savannah State University seeks applicants for a 10‑month, tenure‑track position as Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice, beginning Fall 2026. The position supports both in‑person and online course offerings, including Introduction to Criminal Justice, Research Methods, Statistics, Crime Analysis, and Criminal Justice Management. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in online delivery, experiential learning, student engagement, and contribute to program growth and innovation.

Responsibilities
  • Teach 24 credit hours per academic year (in‑person and online)
  • Support student success through effective teaching, mentoring, advising, and experiential learning strategies
  • Contribute to student recruitment and retention efforts
  • Engage in disciplinary scholarly activities to contribute to knowledge and advance the field
  • Participate in service to the profession, institution, and the community
  • Contribute to curriculum development, program assessment planning, and reporting
  • Engage in professional development and remain up to date with disciplinary standards
  • Manage and utilize online platforms effectively, with a preference for experience using Desire2

    Learn and EAB Navigate 360
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as outlined in the University Faculty Handbook
  • Contribute to a positive work environment in the department and the University
  • Engage with industry partners, professionals in the field, alumni, and the broader community to support workforce development initiatives
Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or related field from an accredited institution OR
  • A doctorate in a related field (e.g., Sociology, Political Science, Forensic Science, Law/J.D.) with a master’s degree in criminal justice, criminology, or a closely related field including at least 18 graduate credit hours in the discipline
  • ABD candidates are welcome to apply and must provide evidence of degree completion within the first year of hire
Proposed Salary

The proposed salary range is $60,000.00 – $62,776.00 annually.
