Job Summary /DescriptionWTOC is looking for an engaging and curious sports journalist who will highlight area teams, build strong connections with athletic programs, and deliver high-quality coverage both on and off the field.
Responsibilities- Writing for on-air and online
- Working knowledge of videography and non-linear editing
- Meet deadlines and multitask
- Work alongside the Sports Director
- Anchor two nights a week (Saturday & Sunday) and report the remaining three—subject to schedule changes
- Fill in as sports anchor during the week as needed
- Set up feature stories for reporting
- Capitalize on opportunities for digital and social coverage
- Push to go live often to tell the stories of local athletes and teams
- Emphasize LOCAL sports coverage on college and high school levels
- Maintain a professional appearance on and off the air
- College degree in journalism; sports journalism preferred but not required
- At least two years of experience in a working newsroom covering sports preferred
- Strong writing skills
- Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines
- Clear and frequent communication with newsroom colleagues and news management
- Ability to turn content quickly for multiple platforms (broadcast, social media, streaming)
