Experience QualificationsThree years of related experience required. Public employee retirement benefit program experience preferred.
Skills QualificationsAbility to handle high volumes of phone calls; ability to communicate with others in an effective and tactful manner; ability to exercise mature judgment, troubleshoot, and solve problems; attention to detail and accuracy with computation and employee data; ability to write routine correspondence and speak effectively when counseling employees; strong organizational skills; ability to multitask in a high‑volume processing environment; ability to work as part of a team;
flexibility and adaptability to change; ability to represent Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) in a positive and professional manner; and strong computer skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and People Soft.
Provide professional customer service in direct contact with district employees, process documents relating to employee retirement and optional benefits, and assist in maintaining accurate data and records for the Department of Retirement Services.
- Provide retirement and long‑term disability counseling support.
- Assemble and prepare retirement and long‑term disability packages for employees.
- Provide information to employees concerning retirement and optional benefits.
- Schedule retirement counseling appointments and maintain calendars.
- Project retirement benefits for GCPS and state retirement systems.
- Assist retirement and long‑term disability counselors by providing prompt and courteous customer service.
- Assist Director and Coordinator with production of PREP (Projected Retirement Estimator for Planning) packets for employees.
- Process department mail and correspondence.
- Process retirement and long‑term disability applications.
- Process retirement system withdrawals and refund requests.
- Prepare correspondence, letters, memos, reports, and meeting minutes.
- Complete purchase orders and work orders.
- Receive, process, and distribute all incoming and outgoing mail.
- Monitor the Gwinnett Retirement System e‑mail box.
- Represent the Department of Retirement Services at New Employee Onboarding (NEO) sessions to explain retirement benefit programs to new hires.
- Record maintenance.
- Review, index, and scan retirement and long‑term disability records.
- Enter electronic data.
- Assist with special project coordination.
- Prepare and distribute invitations for retirement seminars and group functions.
- Assist with logistical preparations and location setup for group functions.
- Organize and distribute individual retirement honoraria.
- Guide participants during ceremonies.
- Maintain professional and technical proficiency.
- Maintain competence in the areas of retirement and benefits administration.
- Maintain technical proficiency on all assigned technology tools.
- Assist with continuous quality improvement initiatives for the Department of Retirement Services.
- Perform continuous evaluation of retirement services quality and effectiveness and recommend methods to improve operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee is also required to talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use hands to finger, handle, feel, and/or reach. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
