Job SummaryAs an integral part of TAYFFI’s Black Legal Clinic Unit working under the supervision of the Operations and Strategic Partnerships Manager the Cultural Broker Consultant serves as a liaison between justice‑involved individuals, families, communities, and justice system professionals.
Success in this role is contingent on the incumbent’s ability to contribute to immediate, short‑term, and long‑term goals and objectives of TAYFFI demonstrated through positive attitude and willingness to be flexible to adapt to changing needs and “roll up shirtsleeves” to get the work done; maintains grace under pressure.
The incumbent must possess vast experience in Black Social History and skilled in facilitating communication and interpretation beyond literal translation and advocate for culturally congruent practices, be skilled in intervention strategies that improves communication, reduces disparities, and supports equitable access to justice for Black individuals.

Core ResponsibilitiesSystems Navigation: Guiding Black adults navigating the justice system through complexity of legal systems to ensure they receive appropriate and culturally relevant support.
Cultural Mediation: Explaining a client’s cultural beliefs, traditions, and values to service providers to prevent misunderstandings and improve service delivery.
Language Interpretation: Providing nuanced translation that conveys cultural context rather than just literal word-for-word interpretation.
Relationship Building: Establishing trust and rapport between individuals and legal officials and agencies, especially in cases where historical trauma or distrust of authorities exists.
Advocacy: Representing the client’s needs and preferences within the human services system to ensure equitable treatment and outcomes.
