Position: Shop Lead Hand (Fleet)
Location: North BattlefordOur Distribution group is currently seeking a Shop Lead Hand to join our Fleet team based in North Battleford, SK.
Reporting to the Supervisor, Support Services, this position is responsible for leading and coordinating all fleet shop activities to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient maintenance and repair of company vehicles and equipment. This role operates within the fleet maintenance framework, ensuring that operations meet Valard’s high standards for safety, quality, and operational readiness. The position also provides leadership, mentoring, and hands-on support to mechanics and technicians, ensuring the fleet remains fully operational to support project execution.
Duties and Responsibilities
Lead and assign daily tasks to shop personnel, ensuring workflow efficiencyMentor and train mechanics and technicians in safe and technically proficient work practicesInspect, maintain, and repair heavy / light-duty vehicles and equipmentTroubleshoot complex mechanical issues and provide solutionsEnsure all maintenance work meets safety standards, regulatory requirements, and manufacturer specificationsConduct daily safety briefings and hazard assessmentsMaintain a clean, organized, and compliant shop environmentEnsure adherence to company and regulatory safety standardsMaintain accurate maintenance records, inspections, and certificationsCoordinate parts sourcing, vendor services, and inventory controlAssist the Fleet Supervisor/Manager with continuous improvement initiativesRequirements
Post-Secondary education in a related field ( Automotive Service Technician, Heavy Duty Equipment Technician)5 years of hands-on experience with fleet maintenance proceduresValid Class 5 (or applicable) driver’s license with an acceptable driving recordDemonstrated familiarity with fleet management software and digital record-keepingStrong understanding of safety regulations, and industry best practicesBenefits
