Lab Research Officer, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology

Purpose:

The Pioli lab, within the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology, is seeking a Lab Research Officer to provide day-to-day logistical and research support. A major focus of the lab is understanding the development and function of antibody-secreting cells (ASCs) in the context of aging, autoimmunity and hematopoiesis.

Nature of Work: The individual will be expected to contribute to the acquisition and analysis of research data as well as development and implementation of new experimental protocols. The selected candidate will provide logistical support regarding lab ordering, financial and inventory record keeping. Furthermore, it is expected that the candidate would assist in training of lab personnel.

Education: Master’s Degree or Doctorate required.

Experience: A minimum of five years prior experience in a laboratory environment is required. Research experience related to B cell/ASC development, differentiation and/or function is required. Experience with animal handling (both in organization of breeding colonies as well as experimentation) as well as techniques such as flow cytometry, tissue processing, tissue culture, DNA and RNA isolation, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and enzyme-linked immunosorbent spot assay (ELISpot) is required.

A minimum of three 1st authorship publications related to ASCs and/or hematopoiesis is required.

Skills: Organization, attention to detail, and the ability to keep tidy and accurate records and manage large data sets/inventories are essential for this position. The candidate will be expected to work both independently and as a highly collaborative team member. Commitment to stay current on developments in the field, the ability to effectively handle competing and shifting priorities and the competency to collaborate across different disciplines/fields are important for this position, as are excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
