Job Overview
Quality Assurance Coordinator at Grain Millers, Inc.
Essential Job Functions Food Safety- Implementation and maintenance of all food safety (HACCP) programs
- Assessment of capital projects and facility improvements for food safety criteria, supplier approval and/or feedback, including prohibition of commissioning in the face of serious food safety deficiencies
- Lead the quality effort in supporting plant initiatives to provide high quality, legally compliant, and safe food
- Oversee quality in all facets of the milling process from receiving to shipping
- Participate and foster the Quality department’s frequent interactions in capturing best practices, solving problems, and standardizing procedures
- Develop, implement, and record maintenance and updating of all food safety, food defense, pest control/sanitation, and regulatory programs
- Oversee the ongoing certification of GFSI schematic
- Organize and conduct quality audits of all types – organic, phytosanitary, BRCGS, and Kosher
- In conjunction with the Grain Millers Sales team and senior management, determine appropriate specifications for customer’s finished product needs
- Ensure customer specifications, item set‑up, labeling requirements and inspection records are properly maintained
- Participate in production planning meetings with managers and staff regarding quality assurance issues and work duties
- Provide leadership, guidance, training and direction for the team in support of the plant’s initiatives to produce high quality, legally compliant, and safe food
- Work directly with the Corporate Director of Quality and Regulatory for continuous improvement, support and direction of the Grain Millers Quality Programs
- Participate in industry organizations (e.g., NAMA, CNMA, Cereals & Grains Association, ASQ) to foster learning and networking
- Bachelor of Science in Food Science or related field
- Minimum 5 years supervisory experience in a food operation/manufacturing environment
- HACCP and PCQI certified highly preferred or ability to secure this certification
- Statistical/Quality Engineering certification a plus
- Implementation/management of a GFSI system (BRCGS preferred)
- Understanding of the process within a milling facility; prior agriculture experience considered an asset
- Previous experience in third‑party or customer audits
- Knowledge of all quality, food safety and sanitation functions, including calibration systems, instrumentation methodology and maintenance, HACCP concepts, auditing, stability studies, technical report writing, GMPs
- Walking, kneeling, lifting, climbing ladders and stairs, bending, stacking, twisting, pulling, pushing, inserting, sitting, squatting, standing, accumulating, and collating motions
- Ability to handle 50 lbs of material with occasional assistance
A typical work day is Monday‑Friday 8 hours/day. Business needs may dictate variance of workday starts and/or later finishes, weekend work as necessary, and occasional travel during off hours and weekends. Departmental business requires general accessibility by phone and/or email during off hours and weekends.
