In this role, we are looking for team leaders that can travel throughout Manitoba & Saskatchewan as you work to support our crews in the field and interact with our clients and landowners to ensure access and safety is maintained along utility corridors and power distribution stations. Any prospective employee will ideally have 2-3 years of experience in previous pesticide employment, particularly in industrial or forestry applications, and with overseeing and coordinating multiple crews on a project.
A strong emphasis will be focused on working independently away from our main offices for extended days throughout rural areas where crews are operating during our summer season and requires the ability to perform basic hands‑on maintenance and troubleshooting of spray application equipment in the field.
This challenging position entails the supervision of crews in field applying herbicides with the purpose of managing brush and noxious weeds on utility facilities, power line rights‑of‑ways, and pipeline rights‑of‑way. The application of herbicides varies from selective backpack treatments to large scale foliar treatments utilizing 1-ton trucks, all terrain vehicles, and/or heavy equipment.
Job Duties- Supervision of crews in the field performing chemical and mechanical vegetation control.
- Equipment maintenance, and repairs with assets that are available in the work area.
- Oversee crew operations, work project planning, and crew accommodations.
- Perform regular crew safety and performance checks.
- Operate and run crews for specific projects.
- Operate herbicide applicator equipment, adhering to all company and environmental standards.
- Do pre‑patrol surveys of locations to facilitate crew access and identify pre-existing hazards.
- Contact landowners and clients to facilitate the completion of the work.
- Do post‑patrol quality control inspections of completed applications.
- Abide by Davey and industry safety policies and procedures.
- Address landowner concerns.
- Manage customer service expectations.
- 2-3 year of vegetation management experience as a crew leader for herbicide applications.
- Valid provincial driver’s license.
- Asset:
Air brakes, multiple herbicide applicators certificate for Manitoba, Saskatchewan or Alberta, H2S, WHIMIS, Standard First Aid with CPR, ATV training and heavy equipment operating experience, customer relations, site assessments, weed identification, equipment maintenance, & crew management. - Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
- Attention to detail, and a proficiency using tablets, Windows and Excel, are, and required.
- Ability to work safely as part of a team and possess the willingness to learn and progress.
- Ability to contact landowners and clients and address concerns.
- Ability to perform safety inspections, and quality control on completed work.
- Familiarity with legal land navigation and map reading.
- Extensive travel is required for this role. Hotel costs are covered by Davey tree and virtually all expenses are covered.
- Wages are dependent on prior experience and certifications.
- Wages range from $28-$31 dollars an hour depending on experience and certifications along with $50.00 tax‑free living allowance paid for out‑of‑town work.
