Position Summary:

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides a wide variety of nursing services to patients and families. The RN applies standard nursing processes, including critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making, while also teaching, counseling, and advocating for patients and their families.

The RN practices in accordance with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS) standards and scope of practice, the Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC) standards and scope of practice, and facility policies and procedures. The RN possesses the education and clinical experience necessary to assess, treat, and educate patients undergoing a wide variety of surgical procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide safe, patient-centered care before, during, and after surgical procedures.
• Assist surgeons and the surgical team during operations by anticipating needs and providing necessary instruments and supplies.
• Maintain sterile techniques and ensure compliance with infection prevention and control protocols.
• Monitor patients’ vital signs, anesthesia responses, and overall condition throughout surgical procedures.
• Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Document patient care accurately and in compliance with provincial regulations and hospital policies.
• Participate in patient education and post-operative care instructions.
• Adhere to all health and safety policies, including emergency procedures and equipment usage.
• Mentor and support junior staff or students, as required.

Required Qualifications:

• Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
• Active/eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan.
• Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) perioperative nursing certification/Completion of a post-secondary educational institution perioperative nursing program/Equivalent in education and experience.
• Ability to perform consistently in a highly organized, rapid moving, complex environment.
• Ability to collaborate within the expectations of a highly complex integrated team.
• Ability to wear lead apron protection for an extended period of time.
• The ability to cope and effectively perform in stressful and/or emergent situations is essential.
