As part of the Production Team underground, this position will focus on production and placement of paste fill. This will involve installation of pipe and monitoring of pours when running. The Paste Backfill Operator plays a critical role in ensuring that paste fill is placed in the empty stopes after they are mined out.

Job Responsibilities
  • Use specialized equipment, such as Maclean scissor lift with a pipe handler attachment to install paste pipe safely underground.
  • Place the paste fill in a controlled manner to fill voids and support the stability of the mined areas.
  • Observe protocols to ensure that filling proceeds safely.
  • Adhere to strict safety protocols and procedures to install paste fill pipe, making sure that it is in compliance with standards.
  • Conduct safety inspections and address any safety issues promptly.
  • Report completed tasks and any issues to supervisors.
  • Monitor paste fill pours and maintain communication with paste plant operator.
  • Blast paste pipe when required to unplug it in accordance with procedures.
  • Perform routine inspections on back filling equipment to ensure proper functionality and prevent breakdowns.
  • Install paste pipe in accordance with the company directions to place paste fill into empty stopes.
  • Ensure that pipes are set to flow in accordance with instructions.
  • Maintain a good work area by cleaning off scissor lift and maintaining a clean storage area.
  • Utilize battery operated tools in a safe and effective manner.
Job Qualifications and Skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience working in an underground mine environment.
  • Relevant training or certifications related to paste backfill production and placement in underground mining.
  • Strong commitment to safety and the ability to follow safety protocols and procedures.
  • Proficiency in operating specialized backfill equipment and machinery.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to conduct quality control tests.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Competitive Hourly Rate: $38.79 – $44.08/hr which includes a target‑based monthly bonus
