Responsibilities
- Lead, oversee, coordinate, and manage the technical aspects of construction activities to ensure alignment with engineering design and project specifications.
- Ensure projects are constructed safely, efficiently, and according to approved designs, specifications, and regulations.
- Maintain compliance with safety regulations, building codes, project specifications, and stakeholder expectations.
- Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and stakeholders to keep the project on schedule and within budget.
- Use technical knowledge and experience to address technical issues with pragmatic, timely solutions while balancing contractual commitments with technical compliance.
- Monitor quality control and ensure project alignment with approved design.
- Lead and coordinate all project commissioning activities to ensure the constructed project performs as intended.
- Ensure successful handoff to operations upon project completion.
Key Accountabilities
- Work closely with project managers, design engineers, owner’s engineers, contractors, equipment vendors, suppliers, and other stakeholders during planning and execution to coordinate technical support and ensure seamless integration of HVDC, electrical, and structural components.
- Provide daily technical support to construction activities, including converter station installation and interfacing utilities and generation equipment.
- Verify that the of HVDC components matches detailed engineering designs and functional requirements.
- Conduct regular inspections of materials, workmanship, and installed equipment to ensure compliance with project standards and industry regulations (e.g., IEC, IEEE).
- Enforce strict safety protocols specific to high‑voltage systems, including compliance with OSHA and HVDC safety guidelines.
- Support the development and preparation of specialized commissioning plans and acceptance criteria for HVDC transmission systems and review commissioning results.
- Help contractors address on‑site challenges promptly and implement practical solutions to technical or logistical issues.
- Support the pre‑construction team in planning and assessing potential new projects, including conceptual design and front‑end engineering design activities.
Qualifications – Experience, Education, and Licensure
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related discipline.
- 10+ years of experience as a Professional Engineer with high‑voltage substation and transmission expertise.
- Minimum 10 years of experience with HVDC design, construction, commissioning, and operations.

- Strong problem‑solving skills, technical capabilities, and a creative, curious, self‑driven work ethic.
- Proven effectiveness in carrying out complex projects with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work well in and/or lead cross‑functional teams.
- Strong oral, written, and presentation skills.
- Ability to travel frequently (up to 50% travel).
Technical Skills
- Advanced knowledge and application of HVDC technology.
- Experience with converter valves, valve cooling, transformers, reactors/capacitors, control, and protection systems.
- Preparation of technical specifications, tender documents, bid evaluation, and design reviews.
- Knowledge of applicable codes and standards related to HVDC transmission.
- Field experience with installation, commissioning, and maintenance of HVDC transmission systems.
- Expertise in high‑voltage AC and DC cable installation, trenching, jointing, and termination techniques.
- Understanding of soil, ground conditions, and site grading for cable laying and tower foundations.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar software for design drawing interpretation.
- Familiarity with IEC and IEEE guidelines and local electrical codes.
Compensation and Benefits
Expected starting pay range: $128,000 – $173,000 USD. Base pay may vary based on location, experience, and qualifications.
