The Senior Structural Engineer will be part of an engineering team providing engineering services primarily for heavy industrial projects, largely related to mining, and may support large and small hydropower-related projects. The Senior Structural Engineer participates in a wide range of projects covering concrete foundations and structural steel design. Activities include layout development and structural analysis of industrial structures for both front end planning and the detailed engineering phase for multi-discipline projects.

Activities also include client interaction, site investigations and inspections, and rehabilitation designs.

The Senior Structural Engineer is responsible for preparing engineering calculations, supervising the work of designers and junior engineers, and developing technical specifications, data sheets and reports.

The Senior Structural Engineer reports to the Lead Structural Engineer on a large project and to the Project Manager or Engineering Manager on small to medium sized projects.

Key Responsibilities
•    Assist the Engineering Manager/Project Manager with the delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope, cost, and schedule for large projects.

•    Lead a structural team to deliver small to medium sizes projects, managing scope, cost, schedule, and quality.

•    Manage small structural sustaining capital projects.

•    Work to ensure the implementation of safety and integrity principles in structural documentation.
•    Prepare engineering calculations and review engineering calculations prepared by junior engineers.
•    Prepare technical specifications and engineering drawings for a variety of structural engineering tasks involving construction and/or rehabilitation of concrete and steel structures for various facilities.
•    Prepare and contribute to technical design or inspection memos and reports.
•    Provide input to engineering, operating and capital cost estimates.
•    Prepare and/or review project standard specifications and design criteria.
•    Review and seal documents and drawings as required.

•    Perform site visits to various client sites for review, inspection, and assessment of existing structures.

•    Assist in preparing proposals and client interaction.

•    Mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers on the project team.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential
•    A recognized degree in civil/structural engineering from an accredited college or university.

•    Registration as a professional engineer.

•    8+ years of structural engineering experience, with at least 3 years of relevant experience working on heavy industrial projects, preferably related to mining and processing facilities.

•    Sound understanding of design engineering codes and technical standards.

•    Good communication, interpersonal, planning, and organizational skills. Ability to function with minimal supervision.

•    
Experience with Math Cad, Staad.

Pro, SAP 2000, or similar structural analysis software.
•    Sound knowledge of 3D data-centric design systems.

•    Familiarity and experience with North American codes and standards.
