The Learning Developer supports the design, development, and implementation of an online and in person ITEP Student Transition Program that prepares prospective Indigenous students for successful entry into the Indian Teacher Education Program in First Nation community-based program. The position applies research-supported instructional design methods, Indigenous pedagogical approaches, and culturally informed curriculum development practices. The role collaborates with faculty, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, instructional design teams, and student support units to create inclusive, accessible learning materials grounded in Indigenous worldviews and student needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Designs online and in person program curriculum, outcomes, modules, and assessments using a research-supported instructional design process.
  • Coordinate admission requirements and processes
  • Develops culturally grounded learning materials that reflect Indigenous pedagogies, languages, histories, community contexts, and ITEP values.
  • Collaborates with ITEP staff, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and Indigenous partners to co-create culturally relevant content.
  • Facilitates consultation sessions and collaborative curriculum development activities.
  • Conducts learner and program needs analyses to inform instructional design choices.
  • Develops synchronous and asynchronous learning activities for diverse Indigenous learners.
  • Creates resources while adhering to cultural protocol, copyright, and institutional policy.
  • Coordinates with instructional design, IT, and student support teams to optimize an inclusive learner experience.
  • Implements tools for continuous program review
  • Documents project plans, design decisions, and file management practices.
  • Supports staff in integrating culturally appropriate instructional strategies.
  • Researches emerging practices in Indigenous education and online learning.
  • Develop promotional materials and handbook
  • Participates in committees and professional learning related to Indigenization and teaching excellence.
  • Communicates and acts in a respectful and professional manner, collaborates effectively, abides by policy, and contributes to a positive and productive work and learning environment.
  • Engages in continuous learning by participating in activities, training, and events related to Indigenous engagement, reconciliation, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Demonstrates respect and dignity for all members of the community, actively contributes to an environment of acceptance and inclusion of others, and responds to different perspectives from a place of curiosity, respect, and non-judgement.
  • Undertakes related duties, as assigned, consistent with the nature of the position.
  • Qualifications:

  • A graduate degree (completed or in progress) in Instructional Design, Curriculum Studies, Educational Technology, Indigenous Education, or a related field is recommended
  • Training related to Indigenous education, trauma-informed practice, or online learning development is an asset.
  • Experience developing learning materials in higher education, K–12, or community-based education would be considered an asset
  • Experience collaborating with Indigenous communities, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, or Indigenous student support services.
  • Experience applying online learning technologies.
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory, Indigenous pedagogies, and instructional design principles.
  • Ability to design inclusive, accessible learning materials Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse faculty, staff, and community partners.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with cultural humility.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Commitment to reconciliation, Indigenization, equity, diversity, and inclusive educational practices.
