The Gabriel Dumont Institute of Native Studies and Applied Research invites applications for the following position:
Communications Coordinator – SaskatoonPosition Overview: Under the supervision of the Senior Program Coordinator, this position is responsible for coordinating strategic communication projects related to the programs and services offered by the Gabriel Dumont Institute (GDI). The ideal candidate will be a versatile communicator with strong graphic design skills who can contribute to a range of communications initiatives, including marketing materials, social media content, internal and external publications, and student recruitment campaigns.
Responsibilities: Develop a broad knowledge of GDI and it’s entities; design and produce branded materials for digital and print use, including brochures, posters, social media content, promotional campaigns, and signage; contribute to the writing, formatting, and production of publications, such as annual reports, business plans, and newsletters; develop creative assets for student recruitment initiatives, careers fairs, and events; support the planning of media events and award ceremonies;
collaborate with team members on strategic messaging, story development, and photography/video planning; contribute to external communications such as speech writing, press releases, and student SMS content; ensure consistent use of GDI’s brand identity across all communications channels; update website content in coordination with the Communications team; contribute to long‑term communications strategy development; other duties as assigned by the Senior Program Coordinator.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a post‑secondary degree in Communications, Graphic Design, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field; two years relevant work experience in a communications or design‑related role; demonstrated proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop); strong writing, editing, and layout skills for both print and digital publications; excellent organizational and project management skills; attention to detail and accuracy;
ability to balance creative and strategic thinking in a deadline‑driven environment; knowledge of Métis culture and history; proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe products, Word Press, social media marketing platforms and business tools; photography, videography, media buying, and placement experience would be distinct assets.
Remuneration: Competitive Salary and benefits package
Term: July 2025 – July 2026 (possibility for renewal)
Location: Saskatoon, Sask.
