Position OverviewThe City is seeking an experienced Drainage Superintendent to join our Development and Transportation Engineering team. This Full‑time Permanent role falls under the Division of Engineering & Operations within the Department of Development and Transportation.
The RoleUnder the direction of the Manager of Development & Transportation, this position is responsible for the duties of the Drainage Superintendent as a Development Engineering Technologist. As the City’s appointed Drainage Superintendent you are responsible for investigating drainage concerns, maintaining existing municipal drains as specified in the current Engineer’s Reports, assisting the Drainage Engineer in the preparation of new reports, preparing tender documents and overseeing construction and maintenance of municipal drains.
General duties within the Development & Transportation Engineering team include reviewing, inspecting and providing technical comments on plans of subdivision, site plans, and lot grading certificates, preparing tender documents, and coordinating utility planning and the issuance of permits and associated agreements.

Qualifications- College diploma in Construction Technology, or Civil Engineering Technology, and a minimum of two (2) to three (3) years of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Valid Class G Driver’s Licence with an abstract acceptable to City guidelines.
- Class 1 Water Distribution Certificate would be considered an asset.
- Successful completion of, or ability to obtain certification through the OMAFRA Drainage Superintendent Course.
- Working knowledge of the Drainage Act.
- Experienced in Land Development, Drainage, Design and Construction.
- Field work related to inspection of municipal and private utility infrastructure.
- Proven written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to conduct formal public meetings.
- Excellent computer skills.
- Organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Familiarity with the use of GPS and Total Station survey equipment with the ability to undertake complete and accurate Topographical Surveys would be considered an asset.
