Position
Part‑time Associate Faculty, Library/Library Science (Pool) – West Valley College
Position InformationWorkload: up to 67% of a full‑time load (up to 4 hours/week). Compensation is prorated based on a hiring salary range of $38,464–$55,582 per semester. Positions may require day, evening, Saturday, or online/distance‑education hours during Spring, Summer, and/or Fall semesters.
Minimum Qualifications- Master’s degree in library science or library and information science, or a valid California Community College Instructor’s Credential in Library Science, or the equivalent.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with persons of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.
- College‑level library experience.
- Experience with Alma/Primo Library Services Platform or similar LSP software.
- Knowledge of document and web accessibility best practices.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and other PDF tools.
- Experience providing reference/research support and information‑literacy instruction.
- Work with students at the reference desk.
- Provide reference assistance for students and staff.
- Evaluate, select, and discard print and non‑print materials to keep the collection current with curriculum.
- Provide bibliographic instruction for students.
- Teach assigned courses, including preparation, activities, evaluation of student work, consultation, maintaining currency, and other teaching duties.
- Maintain accurate records (attendance, grades, rosters, class schedules) as required by state and district regulations.
- Submit required reports on time.
- Follow course outlines and maintain office hours (0.5 hour per section).
- Enforce district and college policies, support student services, and foster a respectful, harassment‑free environment.
- Submit an online application for the West Valley‑Mission Community College District, along with resume, unofficial transcripts, and any requested licenses or certificates.
- Complete all sections of the application, including Education and Work History.
- Include supervisor names and telephone numbers.
- Incomplete applications will not be considered.
- Do not send unrequested materials; they will be removed and not used for consideration.
Transcripts:
Only official unofficial transcripts are accepted; they must not be encrypted or password‑protected.
Equivalency:
If the degree does not match the discipline stated, complete the optional Request for Equivalency application with accurate course information; do not attach evaluation documents.
- Applications are screened as needed; qualified candidates will be contacted for an interview.
- Travel expenses for interviews are the applicant’s responsibility.
- Applications remain in the system for one year.
- Applicants must provide identification and authorization to work in the U.S. upon hire.
