Overview

Position Title:

Part-Time Humanities Instructor (Pool) at West Valley College, Saratoga, CA.

Part‑time, associate‑faculty pool position. Teaching may be in lecture‑discussion, online/distance or on Saturday. Assignments during Spring, Summer, Fall semesters.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education:

    Master’s in humanities, OR a valid California Community College Instructor’s Credential in Humanities, OR the equivalent.
  • Understanding of, and sensitivity to, diverse academic, socio‑economic, ethnic, religious, cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.

Responsibilities
  • Provide instruction for assigned courses, including preparation, student evaluation, consultation, and maintaining currency in subjects taught.
  • Maintain accurate class and other records required by the college.
  • Submit attendance rosters and grade reports when due.
  • Follow course outlines filed in the instruction offices.
  • Maintain at least 0.5 hours of office hours per section per week.
  • Observe, support, and enforce district and college regulations, policies and programs.
  • Provide each student with a written syllabus at the beginning of the course.
  • Refer students to appropriate college sources for counseling and other services.
  • Assist students with advice on requirements for successful achievement in their area of expertise.
  • Work cooperatively within the college community.
  • Foster an environment that protects academic freedom and a positive working environment free from harassment, prejudice and/or bias.
  • Demonstrate respect for the dignity of each individual.
Other Duties

Additional duties as assigned by the department or the college.

Selection Process
  • Applications will be screened by appropriate department representatives on an as‑needed basis.
  • Qualified applicants best meeting the division’s needs will be contacted for an interview.
  • Travel expenses for interview are the candidate’s responsibility.
  • Applications remain in the system for 1 year; part‑time pools refreshed annually with notification to re‑submit.
  • Application materials become the district’s property and will not be returned.
  • District may contact former, current or most recent employers and conduct background investigations.
  • Upon hire, the successful candidate must provide required documents of identity and work authorization.
  • Prior to employment the selected candidate must submit official transcripts.
  • District does not provide visa sponsorship.
