Part-Time Adapted Physical Education Instructor (Pool)

West Valley College is now accepting applications from qualified persons for establishing a pool of individuals interested in future part‑time assignments in Adapted Physical Education. This position offers the opportunity to teach classes such as weight training, perceptual motor development, aerobics, fitness, swimming, water exercise, and stretching.

• Provide any requested licenses or certificates.

• If a degree is required, a copy of transcripts must be included; otherwise the application will be screened as incomplete.
• Degrees must have been awarded by an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Council on Post‑Secondary Accreditation and/or the U.S. Department of Education.
• Outside‑US degrees require official U.S. equivalency certification and a course‑by‑course transcript evaluation.
• Electronic transcripts must not be encrypted, password‑protected, or otherwise secured.
• Copies of diplomas, grade reports, or other similar documents are not accepted in lieu of transcripts.

• Submit the District’s Equivalency Application if your degree does not exactly match the discipline(s) stated in the Minimum Qualifications.

Title: Part-Time Adapted Physical Education Instructor (Pool)

Summary:

Assistant instructors will provide instruction for adapted physical education courses. Teaching may occur in lecture‑discussion formats during day, evening, or on Saturday, and/or in online/distance education. Assignments are on‑as‑needed over Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters. Positions are affiliated with the West Valley‑Mission Federation of Teachers (WVMFT / AFT Local 6554).

• Provide instruction for assigned courses, including preparation for in‑class or online activities, student work evaluation, and consultation.
• Maintain accurate class records as required.
• Submit attendance rosters and grade reports on time.
• Follow course outlines filed with the instruction offices.
• Maintain weekly office hours (.5 hours per week per section).
• Observe, support, and enforce district and college policies.
• Provide each student with a written course syllabus at the beginning of the term.
• Refer students to appropriate college sources for counseling and other services.
• Assist students with academic requirements and success strategies.
• Work cooperatively within the college community.
• Foster an environment that protects academic freedom.
• Promote a positive, harassment‑free, and bias‑free workplace.
• Demonstrate respect for the dignity of each individual.

• Master’s degree in physical education, exercise science, education (physical education emphasis), kinesiology, exercise physiology, or adaptive physical education; OR
• Bachelor’s degree in any of the above
  ** AND
  * * a Master’s in life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration, or physical therapy; OR
• Equivalent educational experience; AND
• 15 semester units of upper‑division or graduate study in adapted physical education; OR
• A valid California Community College Instructor’s Credential in the discipline.
