Overview:
West Valley College is accepting applications for a full-time, tenure-track instructor position in Court Reporting & Captioning. The successful candidate will teach courses in Court Reporting & Captioning and serve a diverse student population with a focus on historically excluded and marginalized groups.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction for assigned courses, including preparation, in-class activities, evaluation of student work, and office hours as needed. Maintain currency in subjects taught and participate in SLO assessment to continuously improve student learning.
  • Maintain accurate class and records; submit necessary reports (attendance, grades, rosters, schedules) and file syllabi for each course with the division offices.
  • Post and maintain weekly office hours; provide each student with a current course syllabus including SLOs, procedures, requirements and grading policies as required by Title 5; refer students to appropriate college resources.
  • Assist students with requirements for successful achievement in the program area; participate in institutional responsibilities essential to department, division, college and district programs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education & Experience – Possess any one of the following:
    • Any bachelor’s degree or higher AND two years of related professional experience; OR
    • Any associate degree AND six years of related professional experience; OR
    • A valid California Community College Instructor’s Credential in the discipline; OR
    • The equivalent of the above.
  • AND 2. Understanding of, and sensitivity to, diverse student backgrounds and the ability to address their needs.

Desired Qualifications

  • At least two years teaching in a court reporting program
  • Ability to teach Sten Ed Realtime stenographic theory
  • Ability to teach voice writing or commitment to be trained to teach voice writing within two years of hire
  • Ability to teach all levels of speed building and several academic courses offered in the program
  • Basic-to-intermediate computer-aided transcription software knowledge
  • Commitment to the profession evidenced by membership in professional organizations
  • California CSR license or national court reporting certification in stenographic or voice writing (or demonstrated knowledge of Cal. Code Regs. Tit. 16, § 2411)
  • Ability to develop/revise curriculum

Salary & Benefits

  • Anticipated Hiring Range: $97,318 – $157,048 annually (10 months), based on academic achievement and experience.
