Part-Time Basic Skills-Citizenship Noncredit Instructor (Pool)
Mission College invites applications for a part-time Basic Skills-Citizenship instructor pool position. The instructor will teach Noncredit Citizenship and Civics courses in a supportive, inclusive learning environment.
Position SummaryThis role is part-time, lecture-discussion based, with assignments during Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters. The instructor may teach courses in daytime, evening, Saturday, or online/distance formats. The position is represented by West Valley-Mission Federation of Teachers Local 6554.
AssignmentTeaching assignments may include lecture‑discussion courses in various formats as required. Work schedule is flexible to meet semester needs.
Salary and BenefitsBase salary is prorated based on workload, up to 67% of a full‑time load. Initial hiring salary range is $38,464 – $55,582 per semester, based on academic achievement and teaching experience.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in any discipline, with six semester units in American history and institutions, or equivalent.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to diverse academic, socio‑economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, including disability and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
- Experience preparing vulnerable populations for the naturalization process, including exam and interview.
- Experience with curriculum design, delivery, and assessment within civic system contexts.
- Familiarity with the Comprehensive Adult Students Assessment System (CASAS) Testing.
- Possession of a California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in the subject matter.
- Provide instruction for assigned courses, including preparation for in‑class or online distance activities, evaluation of students’ work, and consultation with students outside of class.
- Maintain class and other records required by the college.
- Submit attendance rosters and grade reports when due.
- Follow course outlines as filed in the instruction offices.
- Maintain office hours each week, 0.5 hours per week per section.
- Observe, support, and enforce the regulations, policies and programs of the District and college.
- Provide each student with a written course syllabus at the beginning of the course, as per Faculty Handbook instructions.
- Refer students to appropriate college sources for counseling and other services.
- Assist students by advising on requirements for successful achievement.
- Work cooperatively within the college community.
- Foster an environment that protects academic freedom.
- Foster a positive working environment free from harassment, prejudice and bias.
- Demonstrate respect for the dignity of each individual.
