Position Summary
The Lead Electrician / Area Foreman is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing electrical work within an assigned area of a project. This role reports directly to the Superintendent and is accountable for crew performance, safety, quality, and productivity within their area of responsibility. The position combines hands-on electrical work with leadership and field coordination.
Key Responsibilities
Field Leadership
- Lead, direct, and supervise electricians and apprentices within assigned area
- Assign daily tasks and ensure crews understand scope, priorities, and expectations
- Mentor and develop crew members through training and coaching
- Set and maintain standards for workmanship, safety, and professionalism
Area Management & Execution
- Execute electrical installations per plans, specifications, codes, and company standards
- Review drawings and details to plan work efficiently within assigned area
- Coordinate daily activities with the Superintendent and other area foremen
- Identify conflicts, missing information, or constructability issues and elevate promptly
Planning & Productivity
- Assist with daily and weekly planning for assigned area
- Monitor manpower, productivity, and progress against schedule
- Communicate upcoming labor, material, and equipment needs
- Reduce rework through proper layout, sequencing, and coordination
Quality Control
- Inspect work completed by crew prior to inspections or turnover
- Ensure all installations meet code, project requirements, and company quality standards
- Address deficiencies immediately and reinforce corrective actions
Safety
- Enforce all company and site safety policies
- Lead task-specific safety discussions and job hazard awareness
- Stop unsafe work and correct hazards immediately
- Lead by example in safe work practices
Communication & Accountability
- Provide accurate daily feedback on progress, manpower, and issues to the Superintendent
- Coordinate work with other trades as required
- Document and communicate issues impacting cost, schedule, or quality
- Take ownership of assigned area and crew results
Required Skills & Experience
- Journeyman Electrician license (as required by jurisdiction)(or equivalent in years of experience)
- Strong knowledge of commercial electrical systems and installations
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents
- Proven experience leading crews in the field
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- (Bilingual a plus but not required)
