Job Description

Reports to: Site Administrator(s)

Compensation: Current Negotiated  Salary Schedule plus SPED Stipend

Overtime Status: Exempt

Position Summary: Create an exciting special education mild/moderate self‑contained program and class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; establish effective rapport with students; motivate students to develop skills needed to provide a good foundation for learning, in accordance with each student's ability and Individualized Education Program (IEP); and establish good relationships with parents and other staff members.

Minimum Qualifications /Job Requirements
  • Education: Bachelors Degree Required
  • Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, etc: Oklahoma Teaching Certification in Mild/Moderate or Severe/Profound Special Education and Elementary Education.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teaches specially designed curriculum to students in the classroom, using standards adopted by the Oklahoma State Department of Education and Sapulpa's Board of Education and any other appropriate learning activities as supported by the district/site administration.
  • Actively participates in integrating technology resources into the curriculum for student learning.
  • Develops and implements IEPs by maintaining a compliance rating of 100% consistent with district requirements.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials to provide individualized and small group instruction in accordance with student goals and objectives as outlined in the IEP.
  • Assist in personal care for students as needed.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others, demonstrate self‑discipline and initiative, follow state and district guidelines.
  • Works effectively with a team comprised of paraprofessionals, teachers, administrators, parents, and district administrators with the purpose of providing quality educational services for each student.
  • Establishes rapport with pupils and provides a pleasant, safe, and orderly climate conducive to learning.
  • Establishes standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Completes documentation and charting required to measure progress on student IEPs and prepare progress reports.
  • Evaluates students academic and social growth and keeps appropriate records.
  • Communicates with parents through a variety of ways to discuss student progress and interpret the school program.
  • Interacts with students, staff and parents in a positive and professional manner.
  • Maintains professional competence through in‑service education activities provided by the district and self‑selected professional growth activities.
  • Participate and complete yearly de‑escalation training to promote positive interactions with students.
  • Other duties as assigned by the site administrator(s).
