Senior Maintenance Worker Responsibilities

• Repair and maintain flood control channels, streams, creek banks, and water/wastewater treatment facilities.
• Clean and inspect sanitary sewer lines.
• Perform semi-skilled, light and heavy manual construction and maintenance tasks.
• Lead work crews under the direction of a Lead Maintenance Worker or Coordinator.
• Operate light and heavy equipment (motor graders, backhoes, bulldozers, power shovels, loaders, elevating scrapers, large rollers, combo and tanker trucks, rodders).
• Act as crew lead on assignments including trail and service road maintenance, vegetation maintenance, flood control, and fencing projects.
• Remove and haul tree trimmings, stumps, concrete chunks, and sacks of debris.
• Complete daily time and material logs.

Candidate will have strong leadership skills, a valid California Class A Commercial Driver’s License, and the following experience:

• Operating and maintaining power tools, heavy equipment, and vehicles requiring a Class A CDL.
• Vegetation management, including tree work.
• Effective communication skills and teamwork collaboration.
• General knowledge of riparian ecology.

Desirable licenses/certifications (not required):

• Arborist Certification (ISA).
• California State Water Resources Control Board Water Distribution Grade D1 or higher and/or a Water Treatment Grade T1 or higher.
• California Water Environment Association Grade I (or higher) Collection System Maintenance Certificate.
• Lateral Assessment Certification.
• Manhole Assessment Certification.
• Pipeline Assessment Certification.
• Qualified Applicator’s License (California Dept. of Pesticide Regulation).

Any combination of education, training, and experience likely to provide required knowledge and abilities. Typically includes three years of experience in construction, maintenance, mechanical, and/or vegetation habitat management work, with at least two years at the level of Water Agency Maintenance Worker II.

• Valid California Class A CDL (including tanker endorsement if applicable).
• Required water/wastewater certifications (e.g., CWEA Grade I, NASSCO Pipeline Assessment, Cal/OSHA confined space, excavation, etc.) maintained throughout employment.
• Desired water/wastewater certifications: CA Distribution Operator (D1), CWEA Grades II and III.
• Desired vegetation certifications: ISA Board Certified Arborist or Arborist Municipal Specialist, CA Dept. of Pesticide Regulation Agricultural Pest Control Advisor License, ISA TRAQ.

• Knowledge of heavy and light equipment operation, preventive maintenance.
• Experience with water distribution, wastewater collection, and flood control systems.
• Understanding of safety practices and hazard protocols.
• Ability to lead and review work of assigned crew members, operate equipment in confined spaces, and perform tasks in adverse weather.
• Effective communication in English.
• Basic arithmetic calculations.
