Position Information
The Sonoma County Regional Parks Department seeks qualified Natural Resources Maintenance Workers! Multiple Extra-Help positions available. Salary starting at $27.70/hour!
Sonoma County Regional Parks includes 60 parks and beaches from Petaluma to Gualala and Sonoma to Bodega Bay. Regional Parks also manages the county's largest ocean marina and largest extracurricular environmental education center. Natural Resource Maintenance Workers (NRMW) are responsible for environmental field work related to plant management, environmental stewardship, restoration, habitat conservation, and forest management.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Identification of native and non-native plant species
- Applying invasive plant management techniques including mowing, weeding, spraying, pruning, burning and other methods
- Operating and maintaining mechanical equipment and hand tools
- Supporting Natural Resources programs which include forest management, prescribed fire, restoration, and targeted grazing
- Experience operating mechanical equipment such as mowers, chainsaws, string trimmers, water pumps, and hand tools
- Familiarity with native and non-native plant species and identification methods
- Experience in environmental field work
- Experience driving four-wheel drive trucks, trailers, and utility vehicles
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to work individually and as a team
- A positive attitude under environmentally challenging conditions
Please note:
This position requires possession of a valid driver's license, wearing a uniform, working outdoors, occasional weekends, and in all weather conditions.
Extra-help employees relieve or augment permanent staff. Temporary, extra-help employees are not in the classified civil service and do not have property rights to permanently allocated positions. In addition, they do not receive most employee benefits such as long-term disability insurance coverage, accrual of vacation, participation in the County retirement program, or eligibility to take promotional examinations. Temporary, extra-help employees are limited in their employment to a maximum of one calendar year.
These employees must be off of work for three months before they can be re-employed on an extra help basis. Extra-help employees who meet the eligibility requirements may qualify for a County contribution toward medical coverage.
This recruitment is being conducted to fill multiple Natural Resources Maintenance Worker I temporary, extra-help positions in the Regional Parks Department. This employment list may also be used to fill future extra-help positions as they occur during the active status of this list. The Civil Service title for this position is Parks and Grounds Maintenance Worker I.
Minimum QualificationsExperience:
Any combination of education, training, and experience that would likely provide possession of the knowledge and abilities herein. Normally, this would include some experience in construction, repair, maintenance, or groundskeeping work which included the use of trucks, light mechanical machines, and hand tools.
License:
Possession of a valid driver license at the appropriate level including special endorsements, as required by the State of California, may be required depending upon assignment to perform the essential job functions of the position. The positions advertised on this announcement does require possession of a valid California Driver’s License.
