About Us:

Four Oak Farm is a small family farm outside Santa Rosa (near Todd & Stony Pt). We value soil life, diverse species, and insect predators (no pesticides). We are small scale with just ½ acre in veggie and nursery production on a 5 acre property with room to expand. We grow niche produce for FEED Cooperative (mostly restaurant orders) and the Sebastopol Farmer’s Market, and unique hard to find tubers and cuttings for mail order

Job Description:

Farm lead will have their hands in every aspect of the farm including nursery and field production and mail order duties as well as at times managing farm hand labor. They will often be working independently but also alongside owner (Farmer Dan). Some example responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Creating and implementing crop plan with owner (Farmer Dan)
  • Manage growing space in partnership with owner (Farmer Dan)
  • Packing mail orders weekly for online nursery business
  • Mowing and string trimming around planting areas
  • Seeding flats on regular basis, nursery work
  • Applying compost, mulch, amendments, etc.
  • Harvest, washing, and packing of wholesale veggie orders
  • Trapping gophers
  • Hand transplanting
  • Drip irrigation install and repair
  • Managing farm hands/additional labor (although typically it is only Farmer Dan and manager)

Candidate should have strong interest in farming and nursery production. We’d like someone to commit to at least one full season but our ideal is long term. When applying, include the word ‘celeriac’ at the bottom of your e-mail

Prerequisites:
  • Have worked on a commercial farm
  • Experience operating BCS walk behind tractor
  • Ability to identify plant species
  • Experience propagating plants
  • Experience with drip irrigation
Ideal skills:
  • Gopher trapping
  • Light carpentry/construction
  • Tool maintenance
Schedule/

Hours:

Monday-Thursday 7am-3:30pm (½hr lunch) but possibly flexible; inquire. Possible to go to 5 days/wk if warranted

Pay:

$25/hr . Annual increases and increase based on performance

Housing:

Not available _but_ for someone who is knowledgeable about rehabbing a travel trailer, that is a possibility
