The

Position

This is the entry level position in the maintenance series. Maintenance Workers perform physical labor in construction, maintenance and landscaping assignments. Work is closely supervised and performed according to established procedures or specific oral or written instruction. Maintenance Workers can be assigned to any one of the field maintenance divisions described below.

Ideal Candidate

There are currently two (2) Maintenance Worker positions available in the Water Department, with assignments in Reclamation and Mechanical. The ideal candidates will demonstrate job‑related knowledge, skills, and abilities applicable to the assigned area, including but not limited to the following:

A. Reclamation
  • Knowledge of general plumbing skills
  • Knowledge of the maintenance of pumps, motors, air compressors, and hydraulic valves
  • Knowledge of the excavation of asphalt, concrete, or soil
  • Knowledge of the inspection, repair and replacement of air relief valves, water valves, and use of wrenches and valve keys
  • Knowledge of gas detectors to test quality of air within confined spaces
  • Knowledge of general machine and fabrication shop machinery
  • Knowledge of the maintenance of various irrigation equipment
B. Mechanical
  • Knowledge of Lock Out/Tag Out procedures
  • Knowledge of general machine and fabrication shop machinery
  • Knowledge of general plumbing skills
  • Knowledge of the procedures and processes for making concrete repairs and replacements
  • Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of portable pumps and generators

Applicants possessing the most desirable qualifications will be invited to continue in the selection process that may consist of an application and supplemental questionnaire review, followed by department selection interviews. Additional requirements, such as successful completion of a physical exam, drug screen, etc., may apply, depending on the duties and responsibilities of the position.
