The Role

The Union for Reform Judaism (URJ) seeks an experienced, motivated, and relationship-driven Assistant Director for Camp Newmans’s Retreat Center to lead the growth, operations, and guest experience of our year-round retreat center. In this role, you will combine exceptional hospitality leadership with strategic operational oversight to create meaningful, inclusive, and welcoming experiences for all guests — including People of Color, individuals with disabilities, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and other underrepresented communities.

What

You Will Do LEAD UNFORGETTABLE RETREAT EXPERIENCES
  • Be the onsite point of contact for retreats, ensuring every detail runs smoothly and every guest feels welcomed.
  • Collaborate with Food Service and Operations Teams to deliver seamless, high-quality events tailored to client needs.
  • Customize retreat programming to create memorable, engaging experiences from start to finish.
  • Oversee health, safety, and emergency response protocols during all events.
  • Maintain accurate event records and documentation in Gazebo and internal systems.
INSPIRE AND LEAD YOUR TEAM
  • Supervise the Hospitality Coordinator and seasonal event staff, fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performing team culture.
  • Hire, train, and mentor staff and seasonal employees, cultivating a team committed to excellence and guest satisfaction.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local vendors to support hospitality and offerings.
SUPPORT SUMMER OPERATIONS
  • Serve as a member of the summer Leadership Team, ensuring successful experience for campers, staff, and visitors.
  • Assist with summer visitor programs onsite, providing leadership, guidance, and hands‑on support as needed.

Additional Requirements
  • Prior experience managing hospitality operations, events, or retreat centers, preferably in a camp, conference, or nonprofit setting.
  • Availability to spend extended time onsite at Camp Newman during retreats and summer operations, including evenings and weekends as needed.
