Overview
The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office is recruiting multiple 9‑1‑1 Dispatcher positions at Communications Dispatcher I and II levels. No experience required, and multiple positions available.
ResponsibilitiesDispatchers handle emergency calls, track, and monitor situations in the community. Apply on-call shifts (nights, swings, weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime) and support Deputies in a wide variety of emergency situations.
Qualifications- Remain calm, clear, and in control during stressful situations.
- Work swiftly in stressful circumstances to manage multiple simultaneous situations.
- Compassion, empathy, and excellent communication while utilizing problem‑solving skills.
- Experience working with the public and people in distress.
- Direct distressed callers through emergencies, read maps, and provide clear directions.
- Proficiency in basic computer programs, including Microsoft Word and Excel, and type quickly and accurately (minimum 45 wpm).
- Valid driver’s license at the appropriate level if required.
- Complete a P.O.S.T. certified Public Safety Dispatcher’s Basic Course within one year of employment.
- Competitive salary up to $44.63 per hour ($93,148 per year).
- Salary advance after 1,040 hours and annual increases based on performance.
- Paid time off: vacation, sick leave, and 12 paid holidays per year.
