DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

The Agriculture & Natural Resources Department at Santa Rosa Junior College offers hands-on, science-based programs that prepare students for thriving careers in vital fields such as animal science, environmental horticulture, natural resource management, sustainable agriculture, viticulture, and veterinary technology. Students can explore disciplines ranging from crop and soil science to habitat restoration, gaining skills that lead to careers in winemaking, resource conservation, agricultural business, and environmental stewardship—or to advanced degrees in related fields.

Classes are held across three college sites including Santa Rosa, Petaluma, and Shone Farm in Forestville. With a blend of classroom learning, real-world experience at SRJC’s Shone Farm, and connections to industry partners, the department strives to prepare students for work in some of the most important disciplines needed to sustain our food supply and ecosystem.

This position will primarily be located at Shone Farm, SRJC’s 365-acre diversified farm in the Russian River Valley that includes 120 acres of forest, 100 acres of pasture for various livestock herds, 90 acres of vineyard, 12 acres for crop production, 4 acres of olive and apple trees, and 39 acres of buildings and improvements. It is one of the largest agriculture sites in the California Community Colleges system, and a place where SRJC students practice hands-on applied learning that prepares them for the workplace or transfer to a four-year university.
