POSITION DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the Healthy Living Director, the Healthy Living Coordinator is responsible for providing a positive member experience by managing and overseeing the operations of the Fitness Centers, its designated areas and staff. The Healthy Living Coordinator is also responsible for all aspects of the Group Exercise department, including leading classes, managing staff and class schedules and developing programs that enrich the health & wellbeing of our members.

ESSENTIAL

FUNCTIONS
  • Supervise daily operations of the fitness centers to ensure a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment that supports a positive member experience.
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, train, and supervise Fitness Attendants, providing coaching, performance feedback, and ongoing professional development.
  • Develop and implement innovative wellness programs and initiatives that align with YMCA mission priorities and respond to community needs.
  • Coordinate and oversee the onboarding and training process for all new Group Exercise instructors, ensuring completion of required training, certifications, and adherence to YMCA Group Exercise standards.
  • Manage, maintain, and regularly update the Group Exercise class schedule, including adding new classes, adjusting formats, and ensuring appropriate instructor coverage.
  • Monitor and evaluate group exercise attendance, participation trends, and member feedback to make data-driven decisions regarding class offerings and program development.
  • Serve as a substitute Group Exercise instructor when necessary to maintain program consistency and support member engagement.
  • Promote and manage InBody and Kinotek services, including sales strategies, member education, tracking outcomes, and meeting established revenue and participation goals.
  • Conduct regular walkthroughs of wellness spaces to ensure cleanliness, organization, and proper presentation of fitness areas in accordance with YMCA expectations.
  • Coordinate and support basic fitness equipment maintenance, including reporting repair needs, scheduling service, monitoring equipment condition, and ensuring safe operation of all machines and tools.
  • Ensure fitness centers and program spaces meet safety and risk management standards, including enforcing policies, responding to incidents, and maintaining emergency preparedness.
  • Build strong relationships with members, instructors, and staff by fostering community, offering support, and encouraging healthy lifestyle participation.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by addressing member concerns promptly, resolving conflicts professionally, and creating an atmosphere of respect and belonging.
  • Serve as a role model for the YMCA's core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility in all interactions with members, staff, and the community.
  • Collaborate with other YMCA departments to support association-wide goals, special events, and integrated member engagement strategies.
  • Maintain accurate program records, attendance reports, staff documentation, and sales tracking to support operational efficiency and program accountability.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities to stay current on wellness trends, YMCA best practices, and leadership expectations.
  • Support a culture of teamwork, inclusion, and continuous improvement within the Healthy Living department.
  • Attend community wellness events to promote the YMCA and our wellness programs. Engage in YMCA-led initiatives including but not limited to Healthy Kids Day, Welcoming Week, and other Special Events
  • All other duties as assigned by Healthy Living Director
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related field preferred.
  • An Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience may be accepted.
  • Group Exercise Instructor certification strongly preferred
  • Experience or training in program development, fitness center operations, or staff supervision preferred.
  • Must have the ability to work with, and support, health seekers in achieving healthier lifestyles.
  • Must demonstrate professional conduct and be team-oriented.
  • Current CPR/AED and must be from one of the following certifying organizations:
    • American Red Cross
    • American Heart Association or
    • American Safety & Health Institute
